On June 7, 1911, around 5,000 of New York’s orphans took part in the seventh annual outing of the New York Orphans’ Automobile Association. They were taken for a rainy day of fun to Luna Park. The orphans were allowed to participate in the day’s festivities as a reward of good conduct. Around 310 vehicles were used to transport the children. The transportation came from the automobile associations, taxicab companies, and private and mercantile automobile owners.
